It should be a grand party celebration. There should be food and drink for all. And everyone should be excited. The occasion should be a memorable one indeed. When you celebrate you silver jubilee, golden jubilee, diamond jubilee you should do the ultimate birthday celebration. Because is a very hard task to achieve such an age.</body>

    <body>Please read attentively.
When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving much advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.
The most I can do for my friend is simply to be his friend. I have no wealth to bestow on him. If he knows that I am happy in loving him, he will want no other reward. Is not friendship divine in this? A true friend is the most precious of all possessions and the one we take the least thought about acquiring.
Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Good friends, good books and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life. Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend. If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in. I think I better end up here before I develop a novel.</body>

It states that &quot; The Independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked up to the total liberation of Africa&quot; What does he mean by that? </body>

<body>In fact pornography has destroyed the whole world thanks the United States of America. In fact the sight of the display of any porn act is very disgusting and dirty at my sight. I feel very surprise that human beings play sex in public. In fact it is very pathetic for such a thing in a blessed world of ours. I wish I could stopped it in my power. Like i will do enthusiastically and appropriately to abolish porn activity in the world. I have learned that Pornography is 100% legalized in the United States of America. This information is very bad. I hope you all support me? </body>

<body>Being smart is a feather in a tea cup. Once you are smart you cannot be easily influence by dilapidated issues consenting what religion to join, what costume to put on, what food to eat, who to be your friend and many more issues. When you get smart you are not easily deceived by anyone. No two man can be the same. No matter what. They might be similar but not exactly the same. Smartness makes you different from other people. Because being smart is secret. In business success, educational success, religious success and family problems success depends on being smart. When I was a little boy my daddy also advise me to be a smart boy. So as my elderly brother. They also say I should be smart in my studies dealings, business dealing and other issues regarding everything I do. What I have for fellow students is that, studies does not only depends of reading your notes and text book, neither is it only coming to class punctually and regularly. Of course it solely depends on reading your notes and text books, revising what the teacher teaches in class and attending lectures punctually and regularly. But the sure way is to be smart than your comrades. Learn how to pass your examinations. Examination is the only and true way to determine the caliber of an individual. An intelligent person in the entire school can fail his or her examinations shamefully. This is due to the low ability of examination guidelines and counseling. Normally what students present as answers to the examiners is irrelevant. Irrelevant in the sense that the answers are not present in the marking scheme. When you are smart on answering questions, you will succeed very well in our examinations. Students must also attend examination counseling, examination guidelines, rule and regulations guiding how to solve examination questions on your answer booklet. What I have for business people is not much. What I just want to say is that be very conscious of your business dealings, having courage also. And the last but not the least is borrow money from financial house such as the bank to expand the business. When the business is expanded high profit are guaranteed. And in a short time you can pay up all your debt and you will still have money to do other things. I think I have to end here or else I would end up writing a novel. I have got three words for you all that is BE VERY SMART.

<body>Kenya: Teachers&#8217;s immorality kills girls education in Luo-land
Posted by africanpress on June 6, 2008

&lt;By Leo Odera Omolo, Migori

Immorality in secondary schools is killing girls education in Nyanza Province where male teachers are reportedly marrying their students left right and centre, hence the source of conflicts between the head teachers and their staff.

Immorality involving male teachers who are falling in love with students under their pupilage in the classes is said to be on the alarming increase.

In one girls secondary school, the Headmistress, it is being alleged is madly involved in love affairs with the resident priest. The school in question is reported to be performing poorly in the national exams. This is because the head teacher who is supposed due to her love affairs escapades with the priest is now consider herself as an untouchable and cannot be transferred because she is under the twenty four protection by the resident priest..

And because is under technical sponsorship by the church, the disgusted Board of Governors cannot afford to discipline her. The BoG chairman who is reported to be a strictly religious person instead of reporting the matter to the education authority is said to have abandoned the school because he does not wish to be seen that he is fighting with the priest.

The flourishing love affair between the priest and the headmistress is a common talks of the surrounding village and locality.

At the St. Mary&#8217;s Mabera Girls Secondary School in the newly created Kuria West district, two male teachers are reported to have married their students with impunity.

And when the Headmistress Mrs Diana Oboro contacted the education authority to protest against such immorality, one of the teachers who hails from within the locality together with resident priest who is also a man from within the locality immediately ganged up with their clansman. They immediately mobilized a band of heavily drugged and drunken youths, who in turn invaded the school for the purpose of ejecting the headteacher. Her only mistake is having reported the immorality to the authority. The gang made sure that the school&#8217;s BoG meeting did not take part within the school compound. The youth had threaten to beat up the BoG members should they turn up for the meeting which was meant to deliberate on teacher/student marriage affairs.

The rule and regulations set up by the Ministry requires the girl to stay out of school for two years before she could enter into marriage contract with her former class teacher. Mr. Christopher Otaigo, a male school teacher at Mabera got married to MISS Janet Konare immediately after she had just sat for the KCSE. This was against the schools rule.

In another specific case, a male teacher in the same St. Mary&#8217;s Mabera Girls was discovered to be dating a student under his pupilage. But before the matter could be tackled by the BOG the student Miss Lucy Abdi was hurriedly transferred to Nyaroa Girls Secondary in the neighbouring Kuria East district. In her new school, the girl was immediately discovered to have already been pregnant for a couple of months and was dispatched home.

Her parents later invaded her former school at ST Mary&#8217;s Maber and forced her former classmaster Mr. Tobias Omolo who married pregnant girl under duress. The couple are now living in a rented house in Migori town, while the teacher is still working at St. Mary&#8217;s Mabera School as a teacher. These are some of the many reason why Mrs Oboro an experienced and hardworkiung teacher who had turned the hitherto run-down school to a vibrant institute to abandon her place of work and seek for transfer.

She walked out of school despite of heavy protest by 400 plus students parents and BoG members and flatly refused to go back under the police escort. She was last week transferred to ST. Gorretti Secondary school In Malder Division, Nyatike Constituency in Migori district. The teacher in question Mr. Otaigo has since resorted to sending nasty SMS messages to Mrs Oboro and other interested parties asking her why she had just published the story in respectable daily newspapers instead of the &#8220;Weekly Citizen&#8221;, which top him as a gutter press.

This writer received such a message. But the gist of the matter is that the two school teachers have entered into marriage contract with their former class room students against the laid down rules.

<body>Nowadays, TV and Radio commercials are sending the wrong information to people especially our dear young school children. A case in point occured in a school where I once taught. The children were asked to identify a well known Ghanaian traditional symbol called the 'GYE NYAME'. When a child in the class had been asked, he recalled seeing the symbol being used in the GHANA @ 50 commercial where the symbol replaced the '0' in '50'. Ass a result, he boldly told the whole class that the symbol was known as &quot;GHANA AT 50&quot;. The whole class burst into laughter. Yes it may seem funny, but the reallity is that, the commercial made it so, which is absolutely wrong. There are more examples that could be cited in Ghana and I know it is the same in the rest of Africa too. Let's take care and guard the feeble minds of our young ones.</body>

<body>am from kenya and over the years there has been a lot of violence, organised crimes, assassinations and a lot of car accidents. There is this self resigned reporter who claimed that some of this situations are well arranged by super natural powers all in the aim of obtaining human blood. she prowess that power is obtained not by how many people you influence but the more you kill and you are on top of all others how true is this development

<body>I dont have money, nobody to help me,and i have to see a doctor urgently because i am very ill..its an emergency situation..what do i do?Am i going to sit at home, waiting to die of the illness or take myself to the hospital, hoping to be treated free of charge..ofcourse not! The doctor would gladly tell you that he dosent run a charity organization..well,thats if its the doctor you meet at first contact, but trust the front desk personnel will spit fire and brimstone when she demands you pay for opening a file for you!!
My dear people, this is where health insurance comes to play...With as little as Eight Thousand Naira yearly premium, you can walk into any hospital of choice to access medical care, without having to make any further payment out of pocket...
Its high time we all embraced health insurance in Nigeria..
its the only way to save ourselves from emergencies...

Lets talk about it people!!!</body>

The Pastor's Ass

A Pastor entered his donkey in a race and
it won.

The Pastor was so pleased with the donkey
that he entered it in the
race again and it won again.

The local paper read:
PASTOR'S
ASS OUT FRONT.

The Bishop was so upset with this kind of
publicity that he ordered
the
Pastor not to enter the donkey in another race.

The next day the local paper headline
read:
BISHOP
SCRATCHES
PASTOR'S
ASS.
This was too much for the Bishop so he
ordered the Pastor to get
rid
of the donkey.

The Pastor decided to give it to a Nun in a
nearby convent.

The local paper, hearing of the news, posted
the following headline
the
next day:

NUN HAS BEST ASS IN TOWN.

The Bishop fainted.

He informed the Nun that she would have to
get rid of the donkey so
she
sold it to a farmer for $10.
The next day the paper read:

NUN
SELLS ASS FOR $10.

This was too much for the Bishop so he
ordered the Nun to buy back
the
donkey and lead it to the plains where it could run
wild.

The next day the headlines read:

NUN ANNOUNCES HER ASS IS WILD AND FREE.
The Bishop was buried the next day.

The moral of the story is . . . being
concerned about public opinion
can
bring you much grief and misery . even shorten your
life.

So be yourself and enjoy life.

Stop worrying about everyone else's ass and
you'll be a lot happier
and
live longer! </body>

<body>Today we see what has become of the world in the lifestyle of people. Is it as the Bible says,&quot;the spirit of the world&quot;, or as what people want. Something pops up, few initially fight against it and in no time becomes popular. A case in point is homosexuality. Well not much can be said but it will e of no surprise at all if in no time it is legalized in the whole world. Food for thought.</body>

<body>For those that care to know, this is happening in Kenya as well. All these political infightings, and poor leadership characteristics of african democracies. Isn't it time Africans return to where we started from?

IN a move that will please donors but only underlines divisions at the top of the country's fragile coalition, Kenya's President Mwai Kibaki has suspended eight senior officials over corruption allegations.

Also, Prime Minister Raila Odinga, according to Reuters yesterday, suspended two ministers from his coalition government for three months to allow further investigation into corruption scandals in the maize and education sectors.

In a statement, Odinga said Agriculture Minister William Ruto and Education Miniarwe Sam Ongeri should step aside to allow &quot;fair, independent and comprehensive&quot; inquiries.

&quot;I am taking this action because two recent investigations ... have laid credible foundations for the two ministers to be investigated,&quot; the prime minister said.

Donors and Kenyans have long called for leaders in the unity government to take a tougher line with influential individuals blamed for a raft of major graft cases that have tainted several important sectors of the East Africa's biggest economy.

In a statement late on Saturday, Kibaki's office said he had suspended the eight officials for three months after they were &quot;mentioned adversely&quot; in inquiries into the work of a subsidised maize scheme and Kenya's free primary education programme.

&quot;President Kibaki once again reaffirmed the government's commitment to fighting corruption and assured of speedy and conclusive investigations on use of public resources,&quot; it said.

Donors will welcome the action against senior figures, who include officials from the National Cereals and Produce Board and the permanent secretaries in the ministries of agriculture, education, special programmes and prime minister's office.

But many Kenyans said the move by Kibaki highlighted growing rifts between the president and Odinga, the opposition leader who became Prime Minister after talks to end post-election in 2008 that killed at least 1,300 people.

The issue of how to deal with high level corruption has soured relations in recent weeks. Among the suspended officials were Mohammed Isahakia, permanent secretary in Odinga's office, and the prime minister's chief of staff, Karol Omondi.

The United States and Britain have both banned a number of Kenyans from travelling to their countries because of graft. Last month, the U.S. ambassador warned that Kenya risked another eruption of violence even before its next presidential poll in 2012 if reforms were not put in place soon.

In an editorial, Kenya's Sunday Nation newspaper said the developments posed a grave danger to the fate of much-needed reforms, and were particularly regrettable because Kibaki and Odinga had been working well together at the start of the year.

&quot; The newfound unity in the coalition saw the country make major strides in a relatively short period of time,&quot; it said.

&quot;This rosy outlook has been disrupted by the infighting within the cabinet in the last few weeks. Kenyan politicians seem never to miss an opportunity to shoot themselves in the foot.&quot;

<body>Tupac Shakur was born Lesane Parish Crooks in The Bronx, New York City on June 16, 1971 to Afeni Shakur, a member of the Black Panthers. Serving jail time on bombing charges while pregnant with Tupac, his mother faced a sentence of up to three years in prison. Acting as her own attorney, she won the verdict and was released one month before Tupac was born. At first opportunity, Afeni had Tupac's birth certificate changed to reflect his real name, Tupac Amaru, which means &quot;royal serpent&quot; and was the name of an Inca leader and warrior who came to power in 1570.

As a child, Tupac had dreamed of becoming a Shakespearean actor. Though he never achieved this, he did become a respected actor, drawing from his theatre roots. He starred in Juice in 1991 to critical acclaim, hailed by Rolling Stone's Peter Travers as &quot; The film's most magnetic figure.&quot; He went on to star in Poetic Justice, Above the Rim, Gridlock'd, Bullet, and Gang Related.

In December 1993, Shakur was charged with sexually abusing a woman in his hotel room. According to his account, he met a female fan at a club, Nell's, who was described to him as wanting to &quot;more than meet [him]&quot;. She allegedly gave him oral sex on the dance floor before Shakur took her back to his hotel room. The next night, she visited him before he was set to do a show and was giving him a massage in a hotel room. Some friends who were with him that night interrupted the couple, wanting to enjoy the woman's attentions themselves. Shakur claimed to have left the room disgusted and went to take a nap. The girl, disagreeing with his account, accused him of encouraging the three men, pulling her hair, and sodomy. On February 7, 1995, Shakur was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for rape, though he vehemently denied any wrongdoing.

<body>with the tough polititcal game of the kenyan politicians they are hard on playing a blame game that is rotatiing and getting nowhere i wonder if they gonna get to an agreement or they will continue blaming each other until their time is over. this is to say that each politician is making effort to build his/her political background and not even one of them is concerned with the common citizen and this makes kenyans suffer the more seeing that the people they chose are nothing but greedy politicians who would want everything for themselves and not to take care of the interests of the people who made them be what they are today.</body>

<body>ABUJA, Nigeria &#8212; World powers Thursday waded into the row in Nigeria over the president's health, lamenting the &quot;uncertainty&quot; caused by his absence as his deputy promised that he would return home soon.&quot;Nigeria is going through a period of uncertainty because of the prolonged illness of President Musa Umaru Yar'Adua,&quot; said a joint statement by the United States, European Union, Britain and France. The powers said they welcomed constitutional efforts in Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation and one of the world's top oil producers, to &quot;resolve the question of governing authority in the president's prolonged absence&quot;.

The 58-year-old president has been receiving treatment for a serious heart condition in Saudi Arabia since November 23.

Timeline: Nigeria in crisis over ailing president

Three separate legal challenges are currently underway in the Federal High Court to force the government to hand presidential powers to his deputy Goodluck Jonathan.

Separately, the government and the Senate have openly clashed over how to deal with Yar'Adua's prolonged absence and his apparent refusal to hand power to his deputy from his hospital bed in Jeddah.

&quot;Nigeria?s stability and democracy carry great significance beyond its immediate borders,&quot; given its importance as a global oil producer and stabilising force in west Africa, said the statement.

It was signed by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband, France's Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and European Union High Representative Catherine Ashton.

It is the first time foreign powers have openly expressed concern about Yar'Adua's absence amid concerns by opposition groups that the president's illness has made him incapable of ruling the 150 million-strong population of Nigeria, Africa's second-biggest oil producer.

The statement was issued in London as foreign ministers met to discuss how to aid war-torn Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Jonathan on Thursday said the president will return &quot;soon&quot; but gave no date.

At a ceremony to receive letters of credence from new ambassadors, Jonathan thanked them &quot;for their concern ... and assured them that the president would soon be back in the country,&quot; his office said in a statement.

The Senate on Wednesday demanded that Yar'Adua take steps to transfer power to Jonathan, in line with the requirements of the country's constitution.

However, his hand-picked cabinet deemed him fit enough to remain in office, after the High Court ordered the executive body to decide on his ability to discharge his duties.

The cabinet said the fact that he is receiving treatment outside the country did not warrant his removal on grounds of incapacity.

A federal high court will on Friday rule on a suit filed by lawyers seeking an order for Yar'Adua to hand full powers to Jonathan until his return.

The case is one of three legal challenges to Yar'Adua's authority.

Jonathan, who has been filling in for the president, has been unable to assume full powers because Yar'Adua has not formally informed parliament of his absence, which his opponents say is a breach of the constitution.

They also accuse the government of covering-up the extent of Yar'Adua's illness.

An unwritten policy of the ruling PDP allows a rotation of power between the Christian south and the Muslim north. Yar'Adua is a Muslim, while Jonathan is a southern Christian.

&quot; We extend our best wishes to President Yar'Adua and his family and join the Nigerian people in wishing him a full recovery,&quot; said the foreign ministers' statement.

But it nonetheless commended efforts to break the political deadlock gripping the country, pointing to the recent outbreak of religious and ethnic violence in central Nigeria which claimed hundreds of lives.

&quot;Nigerians have launched an important conversation in examining how constitutional processes can resolve the question of governing authority in the President?s prolonged absence.

&quot;We commend these efforts and their pursuit through appropriate Nigerian democratic institutions to address its citizens? concerns.&quot;

    <body>Herbert Macaulay
The Passing Scene Jan 23, 2010

*At what point does one arrest the national scene that seems to be moving on the wings of a typhoon, when mayhem has erupted once again in a section of the country not unknown to widespread violence, at a time when the not unusual comprehensive shortage of fuel supply has all but prostrated the country, and that in the protracted, though not surprising absence of the Head of State, while the nation is still mourning the passing of a former First Lady who was, &#8220;Truly The First&#8221; &#8211; to borrow a phrase. These are definitely not the best of times.

*Professor Eskor Tokyo, a Marxist of considerable repute, considered the absence of Alhaji Umar Yar&#8217;Adua for some eight weeks from the country in which he is the elected President, a matter of grave concern indeed. He thus went ahead to highlight the point succinctly by demonstrating his concern, seated on the grave of Herbert Seelas Macaulay, which now seems to be receiving the attention it deserves. Do you really know who Macaulay was? His biography, and that of many an illustrious Nigerian, should be taught in school, or we shall soon be fresh out of heroes.

Herbert Macaulay was a front-line nationalist who is acknowledged to be the first among the founding fathers of the nation. He tackled the British government at every turn in the early days of the struggle for our freedom, and became the leader and role model for younger nationalists in his day. Among those he inspired was Nnamdi Azikiwe who rose to become the first name in the three-man concert of the leadership that won independence for the country &#8211; the others being Obafemi Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello, the Sarduana of Sokoto. Of course, some of us still remember Zik, Awo and the Sarduana, to give their respective popular names.

But you may be surprised that even some secondary school students will be hard put to tell you who Herbert Macaulay is.

It may happen to any of the three men accepted as the cream of &#8220;the founding fathers&#8221; also, and that in a future nearer than you think, since it could happen to Herbert Macaulay in that fashion. He was definitely the most celebrated politician of his time. Among his own people in Lagos, he was a veritable legend. They called him, &#8220;Ejo n&#8217;gboro&#8221; &#8211; meaning a serpent at large in the streets, which depicts a dangerous situation. Herbert Macaulay was indeed the personification of a state of affairs that should be handled with care. Songs were composed about his exploits and supernatural powers were credited to him.

His lineage was of a high calibre. He was the grandson of the first black Bishop, Ajayi Crowther, and the son of Thomas Babington Macaulay, founder of the oldest secondary school in the country, the CMS Grammar School, Lagos. He did not rest on the laurels (or wreaths) of his forebears, being himself Nigeria&#8217;s first civil engineer. And beyond all that, he was an accomplished musician, a violinist, and a compelling orator. He died in his eighties, but was lucid till the end.

The first time I saw him, he was already eighty years old, clad in his white suit and black bow tie, and he was walking down Macaulay Street, a small street in which I lived, and which was named after his father. He has not been denied some measure of honour himself. A much longer and more prominent street would later be named for him in Lagos, his hometown, and another in the national capital, Abuja. He even has his image on a coin, which hardly anyone is able to spend &#8211; but that is another matter.

There are also statues of him, bow tie and all, on at least two locations in Lagos.
One is a stone&#8217;s throw from where his house, Kirsten Hall, used to be on Balbina Street, off Broad Street. I was among a group of young boys who were privileged to visit the house in the company of his grandson, Dehinde, who was our contemporary at the CMS Grammar School, less than a hundred metres away. The old man would receive us with great kindness and give us some cake, bits of which we took back to school like a trophy.

Well, Kirsten Hall was demolished a long time ago. If only it had been preserved! It was even at that time like a museum, with various kinds of memorabilia in shelves, and fixed on walls and filed in shelves. It is all gone. So soon too will a coin that can&#8217;t be spent. The statues say nothing to hurrying passers-by. And history too will soon be silent, unless a system is evolved by which we can sustain the glory of &#8220;the labours of our heroes past&#8221;.

We have for too long been too casual about our history. We pay too little respect and attention to our heroes, to say nothing of their labours. And all too soon, we may have a new generation to whom Azikiwe, Awolowo and the Sarduana may be little more than mere figures in our folk lore tales. Yes, Eskor Toyo sat on the tomb of Herbert Macaulay. Do you remember who Eskor Toyo is? That is a name with which you could cast a spell on capitalism! I wonder if anybody would ever sit on his grave to denounce free enterprise.

*There is so much to be embarrassed about in our nation today. In Jos, an argument arose about the rebuilding of some of the houses which were destroyed in the last riot there &#8211; or so it has been alleged. A disagreement about how to achieve a good effort led to all that mayhem? I don&#8217;t think so. So many houses have again been destroyed. The death toll has been assessed at some hundreds of souls.

The rioters have shown the zeal and passion that must go deeper than preferences over the construction of new houses. But there has been little mention of any element of socio-religious differences which may not be far from the cause of the unrest.

As usual, we have had a round of condemnations and recriminations from all directions including that of those who should feel responsible for the welfare of the citizens of the State. Such sanctimonious expressions will achieve nothing now, just as they did not in the past. And setting up panels of enquiry into the cause of the regrettable incident and the identity of those involved in it, is indeed desirable for obvious reasons, but it is time we realised that the more important measures that need to be taken are those that will prevent such horrendous occurrences permanently.

From the measures already taken, it would appear that the security officials were caught unawares and could not respond as rapidly as the situation required. That detail once again brought the position of the Governor as the &#8220;Chief Security Officer&#8221; of the State to the fore.

Operationally, the executive control of security lies in the hands of the Commissioner of Police who takes orders directly from Abuja. Until he acts, all the Governor can do is a declaration of intents and priorities as time goes by. But the Governor should be able to do more than that, and in good time. At the moment, let&#8217;s face it, the Governors are nominal &#8220;Chief Security Officers&#8221;, and several of them deserve commendation for their sterling contributions to the security of their States, all the same.

*Someone has attempted to lump the fuel shortage once again ravaging the country with the absence of President Umar Yar&#8217;Adua from Aso Rock. Others also believe that he should be around at the time when a misguided young Nigerian attempted to k ill himself and hundreds of other human beings in a plane crash on American soil, an incident that did not find the Americans in any way amused. In fact, any one who could treat that matter with the slightest levity should be recommended for intensive psychiatric care.

Well, there is hardly anything that the President should do about the situation of fuel shortage that is not being done, really. Government and the petrol dealers are agreed on the point that the pump price must be increased. The populace is opposed to that. But government must govern, and the President is the head of government. He is not likely to order a presidential fiat against an officially processed scarcity, no matter where he is. We all knew that it would come to this.

So, all we are saying is, please let them increase the fuel price and let us have some peace.
As for poor Farouk Muttalab, the idea of mentioning President Yar&#8217;Adua&#8217;s absence in connection with his case hinges on the notion that perhaps the President&#8217;s office would have been able to mitigate the ferocity of the American reaction, were he at home. That, anyway, is unlikely. The Americans really went berserk &#8211; and understandably so, perhaps. This aspect of over-reaction has been mentioned here, and it would appear to have led to a shift in the sympathy of several people over this matter. For instance, according to Patricia A.

&#8216;My position shifted from indignation against the boy and his family to the USA. I now understand why they have so many enemies. &#8220;Bibe ori ko ni ogun ori fifo.&#8221; (Decapitation is hardly the remedy for a headache). In the history of terrorism against the USA, has ANY father ever alerted them of the probable odious character of his son? As a mother, I salute and commend the courage of Alhaji Mutallab.&#8217;</body>

<body>Given the fact that the biggest societal issue in Nigeria is corruption, and fraud. I think all Nigerians must put pressure on the government to ensure that someone like Mrs. Ibru gets Life Imprisonment.

We need the strongest possible deterrent to fraud and corruption in Nigeria. So let's start with Mrs. Ibru who has stolen more than 300 billion Naira. Do you know what 300 billion could do for Nigeria?

Without all the thieves in government and private businesses in nigeria committing fraud, bribery and tax evasion, we all know that Nigeria is a blessed nation and is destined to be great.

Without corruption, there will be habitable housing, electricity, drinkable water, jobs, education, and public health.

Do you believe that the main impediment to development in Nigeria is corruption? Then join me in putting pressure on the elected officials by posting this to as many online forums as you can to gain the support of Nigerians.

We need to get tough on corruption in Nigeria, do your part.

Once we are done putting Mrs. Ibru behind bars for life, there are other people to go after.

When you post this in any online forum or email the content to your contacts, please have the readers visit this forum at http://www.naijazone.com/forum_posts to add comment on this topic. In your comment just say yes, I support, then add names of at least five other Nigerian corrupt officials that you think should be investigated next.

Take this serious, do your part to help provide a future for our children and our childrens' children.

Your comments welcome, of course.</body>

<body>Abuja (THEWILL) - These are not the best of times for former managing director of Oceanic Bank Plc and wife of Olorogun Michaal Ibru as THEWILL has learnt that Nigerian authorities have traced more properties to her both in Nigeria and the United States of America.

Mrs. Ibru was one of the four managing directors removed by the Lamido Sanusi led Central Bank after the audit of Nigerian banks some months ago. Am asking this question because of the happenings in Nigeria today.
The military is an aberration everyone knows that but, what is the best way to good government, respect for the rule of law, respect for human dignity in Nigeria, that will make the country achieve its full potentials in the committee of nations. .....Please contribute.

<body>This is an excerpt of an interesting article written by a former US ambassador on the Nigerian experiment. Interesting read if you missed this. My comment also posted here.

&#8216;Nigeria becoming irrelevant in the world&#8217;
National News, Viewpoints Jan 6, 2010

By Ambassador Princeton Lyman
It is such a privilege to be here in a conference in honour of Professor Chinua Achebe, an inspiration and teacher to all of us.
I have a long connection to Nigeria. Not only was I, an Ambassador there, I have travelled to and from Nigeria for a number of years and have a deep and abiding vital emotional attachment to the Nigerian people, their magnificence, their courage, artistic brilliance, their irony, sense of humour in the face of challenges, etc.

And, I hope that we keep that in mind when I say some things that I think are counter to what we normally say about Nigeria. And, I say that with all due respect to Eric Silla, who is doing a magnificent work at State Department and to our good friends from the legislature; because I have a feeling that we both Nigerians and Americans may be doing Nigeria and Nigerians no favour by stressing Nigeria&#8217;s strategic importance.

I know all the arguments: It is a major oil-producer, it is the most populous country in Africa, it has made major contributions to Africa in peace-keeping, and, of course, negatively if Nigeria were to fall apart, the ripple effects would be tremendous, etc. But, I wonder if all this emphasis on Nigeria&#8217;s importance creates a tendency to inflate Nigeria&#8217;s opinion of its own invulnerability.

Among much of the elite today, I have the feeling that there is a belief that Nigeria is too big to fail, too important to be ignored, and that Nigerians can go on ignoring some of the most fundamental challenges they have, many of which we have talked about: disgraceful lack of infrastructure, the growing problems of unemployment, the failure to deal with the underlying problems in the Niger-Delta, the failure to consolidate democracy; and somehow feel will remain important to everybody because of all those reasons that are strategically impor-tant.
And I am not sure that that is helpful.

Let me sort of deconstruct those elements of Nigeria&#8217;s importance, and ask whether they are as relevant as they have been.

One in five Africans is a Nigerian, so&#8230;

We often hear that one in five Africans is a Nigerian. What does it mean? Do we ever say one in five Asians is a Chinese? Chinese power comes not just for the fact that it has a lot of people but it has harnessed the entrepreneurial talent and economic capacity and all the other talents of China to make her a major economic force and political force.

What does it mean that one in five Africans is Nigeria? It does not mean anything to a Namibian or a South African. It is a kind of conceit. What makes it important is what is happening to the people of Nigeria. Are their talents being tapped? Are they becoming an economic force? Is all that potential being used?

And the answer is &#8220;Not really&#8221;.

And oil. Yes, Nigeria is a major oil producer, but Brazil is now launching a 10-year programme that is going to make it one of the major oil producers in the world.

And every other country in Africa is now beginning to produce oil.
And Angola is rivaling Nigeria in oil production, and the United States has just discovered a huge gas reserve which is going to replace some of our dependence on imported energy.

So if you look ahead ten years, is Nigeria really going to be that relevant as a major oil producer, or just another of the many oil producers while the world moves on to alternative sources of energy and other sources of supply?

How influencial is Nigeria?

And what about its influence and contributions to the continent? As our representative from the parliament talked about, there is a great history of those contributions. But that is history.

Is Nigeria really playing a major role today in the crisis in Niger on its border, or in Guinea, or in Darfur, or, after making many promises, any contributions to Somalia?

The answer is no. Today Nigeria is not making a major impact on its region, or on the African Union or on the big problems of Africa.
What about its economic influence?

Well, as we have talked about earlier, there is a de-industrialisation going on in Nigeria&#8212; lack of infrastruc-ture and power means that with imported goods under globalisation, Nigerian factories are closing and more people are becoming unemployed. Nigeria is becoming a kind of society that imports and exports and lives off the oil, which does not make it a significant economic entity.

Now, of course, on the negative side, the collapse of Nigeria would be enormous, but is that a point to make Nigeria strategically impor-tant?
Years ago, I worked for an Assistant Secretary of State who had the longest tenure in that job in the 1980s; and I remember in one meeting a Minister from a country not very friendly to the United States, came in and was berating the Assistant Secretary on all the evils of the United States and all its dire plots and in-things in Africa.

He was going on and on and finally the Assistant Secretary cut him off and said, &#8220;You know, the biggest danger for your relationship with the United States is not  our opposition but that we will find you irrelevant.&#8221;

Nigeria-America relationship

The point is that Nigeria can become much less relevant to the United States. We have already seen evidence of it when President Obama went to Ghana and not to Nigeria. He was sending a message that Ghana symbolised more of the significant trends, issues and importance that one wants to put on Africa than Nigeria.

And when I was asked by journalists why President Obama did not go to Nigeria, I said, &#8220;what would he gain from going? Would Nigeria be a good model for democracy? Would it be a model for good governance? Would he obtain new commitments on Darfur or Somalia or strengthen the African Union or in Niger or elsewhere?&#8221;

No he would not, so he did not go.

And when Secretary Clinton did go, indeed, she also went to Angola. Who would have thought years ago that Angola would be the most stable country in the Gulf of Guinea and establish a binominal commission in Angola?

So the handwriting may already be on the wall, and that is a sad commentary.
What it means is that Nigeria&#8217;s most important strategic importance in the end could be that it has failed.

That is a sad, sad conclusion. It does not have to happen, but I think that we ought to stop talking about what a great country it is, and how terribly important it is to us and talk about what it would take for Nigeria to be that important and great.

It takes an enormous amount of commitment. You do not need saints, you do not need leaders like Nelson Mandela in every state, because you are not going to get them.

South Korean example

I served in South Korea in the middle of the 1960s and it was at the time when South Korea was poor and considered hopeless. But she was turning around, later to become, to every person&#8217;s amazement, then the eleventh largest economy in the world. I remember the economist in my mission saying, it did not bother him that the leading elite in the government of South Korea were taking 15 to 20 per cent off the top of every project, as long as every project was a good one.

That was the difference. The leadership at the time was determined to solve the fundamental economic issues of South Korean and turn her economy around.

It has not happened in Nigeria today. You don&#8217;t need saints. It needs leaders who say, &#8220;You know we could be becoming irrelevant, and we got to do something about it.&#8221;

<body>It will be disappointing to see Nigeria being branded a terrorist state. We have a country where people are so culturally different that we begin to do rotation of presidency between regions of the country. Can someone tell us what rationale the british had when they started considering a country including the Ibos, Yorubas and Hausas. It is like making a country out of the English, The German, and French. Now, here is a man that was able to afford a $4million flat in London for his kid to go to college from a country where 70% of the people do not know where their next meal will come from. </body>

if you have served Nigeria honourably, if you have not abused your offices, if you have not stolen from Nigeria, if you have been a sourse of happiness to the well being of Nigeria, if you have made Nigeria proud, The Almighty God, Allah will bless you, protect you and accept you in Paradise when the time comes and The Almighty God, Allah will also do the same to members of your families, friend etc.
If on the other hand you have not served Nigeria honourably, you have abused your offices, you have stolen from Nigeria, you have been a sourse of unhappiness to Nigeria and you have not made nigeria proud, The Almighty God, Allah will curse you forever, destroy you and barnish you to Hell and the Koran will destroy you. The same to members of your family, friends, agents and cronnies, who knew and benefited from your evil deeds. The blessings, protections, of The Almighty God, Allah are for those who did the good things for Nigeria and the curse of The Almighty God, Allah is for those who did the bad things to Nigeria. AMEN! AMEN!! AMEN!!!.&quot;</body>

<body>Application Letter to Chief Bode George

Pius Adesanmi

Your Excellency Chief Sir:

Fraternal greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I hope this letter meets you well. There are so many things to say but I am just going to cut to the chase. Chief Sir, I do not want to be like those foolish Nigerians who fanned across beer parlours and paraga joints to celebrate your incarceration by one renegade Yoruba judge who behaved like a fowl with an appetite for the intestines of a hen. While the foolish Nigerians celebrating your temporary visit to kirikiri &#8211; I don&#8217;t believe you will spend two years &#8211; forget that they are concentrating on your today, I have wisely decided to invest in your tomorrow.

Chief Sir, I am saying in essence that I have decided to give my today for your tomorrow. As I am not a hypocrite like most Nigerians Chief, I will kuku just tell you why I am interested in your tomorrow. It is not an empty tomorrow. It is one of the luckiest tomorrows I have ever encountered in my life. How many Nigerian tomorrows can boast of eighty billion naira? That is the tomorrow you will return to from kirikiri. Eighty billion naira in mint &#8211; aganran &#8211; condition. You see, in all things, we must give thanks and praises to God for all his promises abideth forever. Although the enemy tried, God defended his own and in the end, you were not asked to return even one kobo of that eighty billion to the commonwealth of the Nigerian people.

Although I am not saying this to mock him, I cannot but cite the sorrowful case of Chief Lucky Igbinedion who had to refund a crushing amount of almost five million naira out of the thirty million dollars he transferred to his accounts overseas for safe keeping for the people of Edo state. There is also Chief Tafa Balogun who had to return almost two million naira and about five of the more than twenty houses and mansions that he ate. God did not make your own case to be like the cases of these two people. Chief Sir, you did not come to this world with two heads. You have only one head like Lucky Igbinedion and Tafa Balogun. We are not mocking them by comparing your situation with theirs. We are just praising God for his mercies on you. A o fi yo won. Afi n gbe oruko Olorun ga ni.

With eighty billion reasons in my mind sir, and given my firm belief that you are one of the leaders anointed by God to continue to lead this country after your minor tribulation, I am humbly applying, through this medium, to work for you when you get out of jail. Chief, I am applying to become your Senior Special Assistant on Bounce-Back and Re-Integration. Although you are yet to advertise any such position, it is easy to see that you will need somebody to function in that capacity when you get out.

My aptitude for this position is based on my thorough knowledge of the psychology of Nigerians. If you hire me, Chief, our greatest asset will be their memory. It is legendarily short and that is fantastic for the job at hand. All we need do is make it even shorter in order for you to bounce back with the bang that you truly deserve. To this end, I have worked out a number of measures hereunder summarized for you. If hired, I will obviously flesh them out in greater detail and pursue each goal vigorously to fruition.

The first thing we will need to arrange upon your release is a grand interdenominational thanksgiving service that will be attended by the proverbial Nigerian &#8216;dignitaries from all walks of life&#8217;. You will have to ride to church on a white horse surrounded by drummers, singers, and a mammoth crowd of aso-ebi supporters. We will need to hold the church service in a football stadium &#8211; I suggest Ibadan. We could then rent and bus in supporters from all the states in the southwest and beyond to fill the stadium. I am currently preparing a draft of the testimony you will give during the service. You will basically say that you bear no grudge against anyone and you have forgiven Nigerians. You have accepted your ordeal as one of those personal sacrifices a true leader must make to move Nigeria forward. You will enjoin your enemies and persecutors to join hands with you to make Nigeria great. After the interdenominational service in Ibadan, you will pay a brief courtesy call to Daddy General Overseer on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway for photo-ops and additional spiritual fortification against dominions, powers, and principalities. We will then proceed to Lagos for an all-night owambe party with King Sunny Ade performing. Fashola or no Fashola, we can still close a few roads in Lagos for the party. Not even Fashola will stand in the way of eighty billion naira in Nigeria. Ngbati o ya were! We will need about a billion naira for this phase.

With the Christian phase of the bounce-back strategies complete, we will proceed to the traditional phase. I propose here that we try to expand your already expansive portfolio of Chieftaincy titles. It will be necessary for you to spend a few months crisscrossing Nigeria to gather Chieftaincy titles all over the country. When you have done this, you will return to Yoruba land where we shall have to pay a courtesy visit to every important traditional ruler, reminding them that it is now time to fill Chief M.K.O Abiola&#8217;s shoes by electing a new Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land. Personally, I do not know who fits the bill better than a retired military man with eighty billion naira &#8211; excluding assets and what you made as Governor of Ondo state. Chief, we could pull off this Aare Ona Kakanfo thing if we play our cards right. I suggest committing ten billion naira to this project.

Chief, you will also have to start a newspaper for obvious reasons. Fortunately, we could tap into the newspaper-ownership experience of Governor Gbenga Daniel, Chief James Ibori, and even your adversary, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Pending the takeoff of your newspaper, we will need to buy some plots of land in Abuja and distribute them to the editors of strategically important newspapers. It is also compulsory to invite Dele Momodu to lunch not because we need him to splash your photos in Ovation but because he will devote a three-part panegyric essay to you that will run for three weeks in his column in ThisDay newspaper. Allied to newspaper ownership, we would need to hire a gaggle of internet rats and plant them in strategic Nigerian chat rooms, discussion boards, listservs, and allied cyber spaces where Nigerians have been sending their restless mouths on all kinds of dirty errands against you. Ah, those people have spoilt your name online sir. Depending on your relationship with Chief Ibori, we could get him to loan us the two extremely experienced internet rats on his payroll, Tony Eluemunor and Areh Sunday. These two fellas could potentially train whoever we hire. Besides, it shouldn&#8217;t cost too much to get them on loan since they are already getting their share of the national cake from James Ibori. Your money and Ibori&#8217;s money are from the same source &#8211; the Nigerian people. No one should be paid twice from the same source if they don&#8217;t want to be guilty of double collection.

Chief, you will also need to become a serious godfather to facilitate your bounce back on the one hand and ensure that the eighty billion is constantly replenished on the other hand. Eighty billion naira may sound like a lot of money but Nigeria is a very expensive place. A man of your caliber &#8211; and whose reputation is now in tatters &#8211; needs to control the treasury of at least one state to remain buoyant. Fortunately, the onshore model of Olusola Saraki (Kwara), Lamidi Adedibu (Oyo), and Bola Tinubu (Lagos) is now outdated. You no longer have to remain in your state to be a godfather and governor-installer in Nigeria. Chief Tony Anenih and Professor Charles Soludo have recently invented the concept of offshore godfathering that enabled Chief Anenih to leave Edo and ply his trade in Anambra.

As I do not see any southwest state where you could immediately overthrow the existing onshore godfather in the circumstances, my idea is to test the waters everywhere from the middlebelt to the far north, from the south-south to the southeast to determine where you could become an offshore godfather. If we don&#8217;t find a state where you could become the sole offshore godfather, we could try partnering. Chief Chris Uba is so desperate to keep Soludo and Anenih out of his fief that he won&#8217;t mind teaming up with you as offshore godfather. Since all you need is a share of the treasury and will not quarrel with him over appointments &#8211; you cannot come from Yoruba land and appoint commissioners in Anambra &#8211; he may be favorably disposed to the idea. We can agree to him having 50 % of the state&#8217;s monthly Federal allocation, you get 20% and Anambra people will get the remaining 30% to sort out themselves. In fact, I suspect that Anambra will work for us since every politician with a dick in Nigeria now think they can piss generously on that state.

On a more personal level Chief&#8230;I don&#8217;t even know how to say this&#8230; it is delicate. Well, you see, you have a young beautiful bride who got libidinous tongues wagging all over the internet whne they saw her photo at your trial. That is a lesson in life Chief. You are still alive and around and Nigerian men were already openly fantasizing about your wife. Anyway, Chief, the young Roline will have to accept an even younger rival. Nothing says bounce back in Nigeria like becoming President Yar&#8217;Adua&#8217;s son in-law. You may want to consider marrying one more time. The bad news: there is only one Presidential daughter left to dole out and we hear she already has a fianc&#233;e. I guess the only thing stopping the marriage is that they are yet to find a state for him, governorship of a state being a non-negotiable conditionality for marrying the President&#8217;s daughters. This is why we are still lucky. We may be able to persuade the President and Madam Turai to modify that conditionality and expand it to include former governors.

This is a summarized and considerably condensed version of my road map to your bounce back. The full version is in my laptop sir. If you hire me, I am willing to fly to Nigeria to discuss this with you in Kirikiri. That would be a good time to discuss my salary, inconvenience allowance since I will be relocating home from abroad, and other emoluments.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Makojami Olugbala

<body>My lads gave it their all and they ended up with a win, to the delight of everyone in Nigeria. We&#8217;re on a roll now and we want to keep it up and make sure that we qualify. We can&#8217;t look to play for a stalemate against Argentina &#8211; we need to go out and look to win it. We had an incredible amount of chances tonight but not many of them were on target and we only scored the one. It&#8217;s annoying, but you can come to terms with it more easily when you get the three points at the end of the day.
